The golden jackal (Canis aureus) is a mammal belonging to the dog family of the order Carnivora. Body length is 71-85 cm, tail 20-36 cm, weight 7-13 kg. In winter, the fur is dull yellowish, gray (with black mixed on the shoulders), in summer it is reddish with less black. The tail is reddish-brown with a black tip. It lives in tugai and shrub thickets along desert rivers and lakes. It uses other animals’ burrows or natural hollows (sometimes digs burrows itself). In March-May, it gives birth to 4-9 pups. It is omnivorous, feeding on various animal and plant products, carrion, etc. Captured on a camera trap during its night hunt.
