🌱The employees of the National Nature Park “Oralboyi” under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Department of Protected Natural Areas organized events on the occasion of May 5 “Saiga Day” in one of the general education schools of Nukus district.
Once abundant, saigas have declined by 99.5 percent since the 1990s. The number of saiga migrating from the northern regions of Kazakhstan varies every year depending on weather conditions. The number of saigas in the Ustyurt area of Karakalpakstan was 1900 in 2016. The number of separate herds of saigas in the Aral coast and the Aral Sea reaches 200. Many saigas die due to heavy snowfall. Since the number of saigas has decreased sharply, hunting has been prohibited since 1919. License hunting has been allowed since 1954. Currently included in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
